The beaches of Pénestin
Pénestin has around fifteen sandy beaches along 25 km of coast, between the ocean and the mouth of the Vilaine. Some suit families, others shore fishing or board sports. Camping Les Parcs is about 2 km from Mine d'Or beach, and our team is happy to advise you at reception. Here's what we can already tell you.

Mine d'Or beach
The best-known beach in Pénestin, about 2 km from the campsite. It stretches for nearly 2 km of sand, below tall ochre, red and golden cliffs.
Where does the name come from?
The cliff really was worked as a gold mine in the 19th century. Its colour comes from iron oxides in the layers of sand and clay. Today it's a listed geological site, and a fragile one: please treat it with care when you visit.
When to go
Facing west, the beach is good for swimming and for walks at the end of the day, when the setting sun brings out the colours of the cliff and lights up the Demoiselles rocks. You may also see paragliders: clubs offer tandem flights whenever the weather allows.
Which beach to choose?
With the family
Loscolo, Le Maresclé and Palandrin are often recommended for families. Loscolo is a large sandy beach of about 800 m, in Lanchale bay.
For supervised swimming
Poudrantais beach is supervised in season. It's also the only one with a tiralo, a beach wheelchair for people with reduced mobility, available on request from the sailing club during its opening hours.
For the wind
Palandrin draws windsurfers and kitesurfers, and Poudrantais hosts many water sports.
For shore fishing
On the Vilaine side, Camaret and Lomer are known for shore fishing, as are Le Halguen and the Pointe du Bile. At low tide, bring boots and a net. During spring tides, you can find mussels, winkles and shrimps.
For peace and quiet
Men Armor, at the mouth of the Vilaine, is a quiet beach. The Branzais and Men Armor marshes are home to nearly 50 bird species. Le Goulumer is a small cove.
Next to Mine d'Or
La Source beach has the same setting of ochre cliffs, in a quieter spot.
Around the beaches
Bouchot mussels
Pénestin is a major mussel-farming area, with the "Site remarquable du goût" label. They're at their best from June to September, especially at the port of Tréhiguier, where the mussel farmers come back on their barges. In the old lighthouse, the Maison de la Mytiliculture opens on some afternoons in July and August.
The GR34 along the coast
In Pénestin, the GR34 runs for 12 km, from the Pointe du Bile to the port of Tréhiguier, and passes close to the campsite. So you can reach some of these beaches on foot. For hikers, our Wood Lodge tent is a place to spend the night at the campsite. For more ideas, see our Things to do in Pénestin page.
